Prof. Asit Mazumder is a Professor of Biology at the University of Victoria. He was an NSERC-IRC in Environmental Management of Drinking Water between 1999 and 2012. Through this program, he has published extensively in the areas of land-use, water-use and climate impacts on source water quality and their relationships with DBPs, T&O, emerging contaminants, molecular tracking of pathogens, enteric illnesses and public health. His research has also resulted in the development of several innovative tools for rapid detection of microbial and sewage contamination of source water. For his outstanding research in aquatic sciences leading to environmental solutions, he received the prestigious Ruth Patrick Award 2013 from ALSO. His research is highly recognized for training HQP, advancing both youth education in environmental science and local/regional policies for source water protection and promoting awareness in water quality and public health. Dr. Mazumder will serve on the Scientific Management Committee as the leader of Theme II.
