Irfan Gehlen leads KWL’s Water Quality and Treatment sector. His consulting experience spans 17 years of practice in water supply and treatment for drinking water applications. He has hands-on experience in both preliminary and detailed design of many water treatment plants, water reservoirs, and pump stations. He also has experience with pilot studies and feasibility investigations, which have led to the construction of full-scale water treatment plants.
Irfan was the site engineer for the Metlakatla water treatment plant that was awarded the Schreyer award, Canada’s highest honour for consulting engineering excellence.
He is the Water Treatment Technical Practice Reviewer for the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (APEGBC). His duties include review of water treatment design files and technical practice details of randomly selected Professional Engineers. Practice review is used to confirm adequate public health protection, worker safety and environmental protection. He has also held positions as Chair of the British Columbia Water and Waste Association’s Small Water Systems Committee and on BCWWA’s Drinking Water Quality Committee.
