Dr. Cataldo is from Valparaiso, Chile. She is a postdoctoral fellow in the chemical and biological engineering department at UBC. She has a Master’s degree in chemical engineering from Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaiso and a PhD in electrochemical treatment of water from the Polytechnic University of Turin (Italy).
Macarena strongly believes that water is an essential human right and interferes directly on the development of life of all beings on the planet. For this reason, she has been working for many years in water treatment in different projects such as electrooxidation of bilge water and urea, electrofenton treatment and electrocoagulation of Cr(VI) in collaboration with the Società Metropolitana Acque Torino (SMAT) in Turin. Macarena is currently developing new electrosynthesis for ferrate generation as part of her RES'EAU project.
