Sue is from Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). She is an Industrial Chemist with a Master’s degree in Geochemistry (Fluminense Federal University - Brazil), and a PhD in Chemical Engineering (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro - Brazil and Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II - Italy). Sue is a research scientist with a wide and a diverse background on Environmental Sciences. During her career, she has been involved with contamination monitoring and application of remediation techniques for soil and water, working with different institutions from distinct countries, such as Germany and Italy.
As a postdoctoral fellow she has been working with advanced oxidative processes towards the removal of contaminants of emerging concern that are also identified as tracers of anthropogenic activity and endocrine disruptors. Currently, Sue is a PDF at UBC working on the use of UVLED for drinking water treatment during Chlorine/UV process
